Loving Through Confusion

Chloe was put back on the ventilator Friday night to save her strength. The doctors assured her parents it was common, since they didn't want her expending extra energy clearing her lungs that she could use healing from surgery. Chloe had begun communicating through thumbs-up, thumbs-down and basic sign language she learned in elementary school in addition to speaking. She gave the vent a thumbs-down but understood it was for the best. Yesterday she was mildly sedated, and the doctors were most concerned for her swallowing. If you are sending positive thoughts, energy or prayers, Chloe's mom asked that you move swallowing to the top of the list. This has to do with where the bleeding was located on her brainstem. She should be weaned from the vent today and be able to start again without it, as her lungs were clear at last update.

Tara and I got to hang out with Sabra yesterday. She was much happier this time, and we spent a great morning playing with toys, peek-a-boo, and listening to music. (She is a fan of the PS22 children's chorus and liked their versions of Titanium, Home, I'll Stand By You, The Call, Somewhere Only We Know and You'll Be In My Heart.) She was chewing on absolutely everything, so we think teething is coming soon, though there are none yet.

After naptime, though, she woke up and was out of sorts for a good hour and a half until her mama came home. Pretty sure she expected Mama to be there when she woke up, and when that didn't happen, she was confused. Sad to see her so subdued like that, but Mama was home eventually and this week, Sabra gave her a huge smile when she saw her, and got lots of love and cuddles.
