(no subject)
It's been so long since I wrote an entry here. Jake moved into college on Monday. I Skyped with him Tuesday. He was sweltering in his old-school dorm with no air conditioning and no elevator, built in the 1930s. Jake is pretty sure it's haunted. It was great to see his face and get to talk to him for a little while. Tara and I went shopping and wrote him letters.
Yesterday, it was off to the post office to mail two packages. On the way back, Tara and I stopped at McDonald's to have a chocolate chip frappe, which was delicious. A car pulled up in front of us on the way back, and the woman inside said she recognized us because "her son played baseball with our son--she meant our brother!" Still it was pretty hilarious. Back home, Tara watched The Patriot on TV and reminisced watching it with Zach and Jake when they were little. Tanner got a kick out of the baseball mom's mistake. We made brownies for the going-away party for our sweet apartment caretakers. The sweet lady, who reminds us of our great-grandma, kept exclaiming, "You girls look so much like twins!" When someone else in attendance said "They are twins!" She said, "I know! But they don't usually look this, you know, good!" Sometimes you just have to laugh!
Joy and Eleanor came over early in the week, to hang out. It's always good to see them. Eleanor is 16 months now. She can stand by herself and walk a few steps. She doesn't talk much yet, but imitates in the most fascinating way. It sounds like a foreign language with different syllables, sounds and intonation. Ben is sure that when she starts talking, she'll use full sentences. While they were here, I wanted to show Joy the dance that Jaimie did last week on SYTYCD. As Eleanor doesn't watch much TV, I didn't think she'd be interested in it, but when I turned it on, Eleanor was totally transfixed. She touched the screen wherever Jaimie went, and then let go of the TV stand with one hand, and grabbed Joy's hand, trying to dance! And really, how can you not be inspired by Jaimie's brilliance here?
