"What did you do to me?"
"I saved you." Richard shakes his head. Jacob is reading a book. He tears it from his hands and earns a look of disapproval.
"Would you have preferred it if I let you die? It would have been slow and painful."
"I want to live."
"Just not forever." Richard doesn't have to nod for them both to know that that's what all this is about. "That was the way it had to be. And I'm sorry if you don't like it. But what's done is done."
"Perhaps death might have been better." Jacob stands and grips Richard's face by his chin and stares at him.
"It was death, this, or him. You tell me which would have been better."
