She grips the picture in her hands as he leans in close and says her name. But she can't hear.
"I'm leaving."
"Stay." Being alone is the last thing she wants. Not here, not like this. Jin is not in the picture, but it's this and the words Christian spoke earlier that make her so nervous. That make her tremble and drop the photo. The glass breaks and he flinches. He's never liked that noise.
"You'll...you'll find him." She shakes her head and begins sobbing, gripping his shirt and holding him close. The world seems so small. It contracts around her and she begins to stop breathing. He counts. Rubs her back. Talks her down. When she looks up, he is crying softly, too, and smiling. "See? It's okay." She nods because not believing him frightens her.
She closes the space between them and he doesn't stop her. His hands have been ready all along, knowing that she might do this. He tightens his grip on her back and welcomes her to him. She is so lovely. So much lovelier than anything he's had for some time. They lean against the wall and she cries and shakes her head, but still kisses him. Something feels wrong, but she doesn't know how to fix it.
"Sun..." She stops when he says her name. He backs away. "I..."
"It's alright." And maybe it's the tone of her voice. Or the look on her face. But he suddenly doesn't care that she's married. Or that she's broken hearted and alone. Or that this isn't the noble thing to do. He's been noble his whole life. For once, he wants not to be. He kisses her again and feels her shaking subside. They are like this for a long time. Eventually, he can't take it anymore. Whether it's because she can feel his desire or because she started it, he knows they need to do this.
She undoes his belt and he works with the buttons on her pants, cursing the expensive fabric and finely-made trappings that stop him from getting what he wants. Eventually, they are there and he can feel her need and want in ever kiss after that.
Inside her, things are different. Her noises and her breath are like music and medicine and he feels healed. It's been longer since he's done this than he'd like to admit, but he still knows how to do what needs to be done. He knows he's done his job when she tenses around him and cries out. He follows suit and they come down from the plateau and look at one another. A quick smile. Gone just as fast as it appeared. She turns away, already straightened. He shakes his head. Stepping away, he hears something crack.
The glass splinters beneath his feet and he flinches once again. It's always been something that made him nervous.
