22nd-26th of Winter Trip

Jan 19, 2008 12:32

Finally I’m getting around to filling in the last of my journal entries for winter trip.  This week has so far been pretty good.  I’m still getting used to the idea of I really don’t have some obligation (like studying) to do anymore.  So when I want to read a book, I can read it and not think, ‘oh I should be using this time to study’.

Yesterday I went to a work meeting and then visited Satomi which was fun.  We visited Satomi’s Japanese neighbors who invited us to dinner, fixing Korean barbeque.  Most of the conversation was in Japanese so I got five-hour exposure to pure Japanese.  The best part though was the utterly adorable baby/toddler of the family.  Why must Japanese  babies be so ultra cute?

The family tried repeatedly to get him to say, ‘domo’ when he handed them various objects he found on the floor, but he only wanted to say, ‘thank you.’  A little English lover it seems.  ;)

Now for the final days of my trip:

12.22.07:

Goma and I went to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, arriving about 11am and stayed there until 5pm.  It’s a huge museum.  Goma’s goes at a different pace so we split up, meeting again briefly for lunh at 2pm before returning to our Hostel after a stop at the Reading terminal market.

Goma coked sardines and rice and after he went to bed, I stayed down in the kitchen talking to an Argentinian guy who I surprised by speaking Spanish.

12.23.07:

We rode the bus back to Washington D.C and met my uncle who took us out to eat at an island on the Maryland coastline where I got the Maryland crab burger.  It was mostly resting and relaxing for the rest of the evening before my cousin came  and visited.

12.24.07:

Not much happened.  Slept in.  Used the computer.  Went to Piney Pt. Lighthouse and Point Lokout and Fort Lincoln before I watched Overboard at my Uncle’s and then my cousin and her husband came to visit and we all watched, “It’s a Wonderful Life”.

12.25.07:

Relaxed and loked through photos of 112 years of National Geographic before my Uncle treated Goma and I to “I am Legend”.

12.26.07:

We planned the next phase of our trip and surfed the internet before my Uncle drove us to meet our Cousin.  We ate out a Mexican restaurant before my Uncle dropped us at Branch Avenue station in Washington D.C.  While waiting for our bus, I left Goma at the Starbucks and walked across the Mall to get to Bank of America so I could Goma back immediately.  (He is incredibly strict about money.  You owe him one penny and he will keep jokingly remind you of it without end.)

We’ll that wraps up the slower part of the trip. Next time the post for each day become huge because New York City and all was ultra busy!  Stay tune!  :)
