[personal] Lament of the Writer

Apr 27, 2015 00:14

This is a song I'm sure you all know well.  Stupid words not wanting to do what I want them to do.

Okay, yeah, the paragraph before it flows well into it, but I'm not sure if I wanna focus on Maru's views of Job before he tells about meeting him.  Mentioning him, sure, because the narration is Maru now telling a story about things that have already happened... and we already got Tatsuya's thoughts on what's going on between Job and Maru when he told his version of the story.  It makes more sense to hold off but as I said, it flows sooooo well with the paragraph before.

And if I'm not going to use it there, I gotta come up with some other thing.

I've established how Maru and Kame met.  I've revealed how Maru knows the things he knows about the rest of the characters before ever meeting them.  I've shown why things suddenly changed.

I do have one really important thing I need to figure out and soon.  I have to figure out why Maru is telling the story in the first place because the story -- as told by Tatsuya -- doesn't show Maru as overly communicative.

And maybe I should be spoiler-warning the hell out of this post for little clues like that but I really really wanna bitch AND be productive in doing it.  I hate not having immediate access to people who I can bounce stuff off of.  I mean, I have someone to bounce my world-building for running a Savage Worlds tabletop RPG but not my fic writing.  Desh has awesomely looked over the first piece and I hope will look over this one too when it's finished (please please please oh most amazingly awesomely wonderful Desh!!) but I don't wanna pester her too much.  Being that awesome (is the flattery working?) has got to be exhausting plus she has very important real-life work which I don't want to distract her from too much because I believe it's so much more important.

Anyway, back on subject.  I know the very last file will be Kame's telling and it will be the most completely detailed version of the whole thing and start much, much earlier than everyone else's versions, so I want to leave a lot to that.  On the other hand, I have to consider what each character would be likely to mention.  They haven't coordinated their stories so the fact that one version has certain details isn't a fact the rest of them know... which means they won't assume you already have those details.  Why wouldn't they give the details?

But Maru... given what Tatsuya's said (or more accurately what I know to be true), I could justify him skimming the listing of the facts despite not knowing we already have them in favor of brevity and whatnot... but I wonder if you guys would like that.  I mean, getting the story from each person's perspective is only awesome if they overlap properly and if they include things the other perspectives can't.  You want to hear what Maru has to say about things Tatsuya never even knew happened because he wasn't there and Maru never told him...

Also the further into this project I get, the more concerned I get about the warning I have to put at the beginning when I post it.  Too little info means a bunch of people reading stuff they really wouldn't want to (that's why the warnings are there, right?) but I'm honestly not sure how to warn  for this story exactly without giving away too much of my plot at the same time.  It doesn't need some of my most common warnings but it definitely needs to come with heavy-duty warning labels.

Gah, this is frustrating.  But either way, File 02 is up to 450 words.

rambles, personal
