I'm an insomniac/livejournal addict. I'm at home, in my bed, and I can't sleep. I've slept like a baby day & night at school. I think a lot of it is a sense of excitement about the coming days, but I cannot pinpoint a particular event that should be causing such anticipation.

So, here's a recollection of today to keep me busy & grounded in the present:

This morning, after a wonderful night of sleep, I woke up & Mom made pancakes for breakfast. Shannon & I went to Concord Mills because I wanted to visit people at Blacklion & shop. I saw Tom, Lauren, & Kyle. I wish Laura had been there as well, but 3/4 isn't bad. Went to Ralph Lauren & Saks Off 5th, but I forgot my debit card at home & we were in a hurry anyway. Shannon drove to the mall, and it was weird. She seemed so old, not my little sister.

The whole family headed into Charlotte to visit Maw Maw & Paw Paw. I really made an effort to see them this weekend, amidst everything else, because I know there isn't a lot of time. My conversations with my grandmother since I've been away sadden me, and I realize that Paw Paw is really sick. They've stopped the radiation, and he doesn't eat because nothing tastes or feels good. This morning, before we arrived, he had attempted to vomit twice. I hugged him, and felt bone. And now tears are streaming down my face. Maw Maw knows, and seems lost. She said food is losing taste for her as well. We only saw them for an hour, because my aunt & uncle were picking them up to visit their 4th great-grandchild for the first time. I brought my laptop & showed them some pictures from this summer & of my dorm room. When I step into their house and smell it, I just want to be 6, spending the day with Maw Maw and getting a happy meal. Or I want Mom & Dad to be out of town, and Maw Maw to keep us, and force me to stay home from school on a Monday because I had a mild asthma attack on Sunday.

I baked chocolate chip cookies this afternoon. Two batches, separately, because our KitchenAid mixer cannot handle them combined. How very time consuming. I love baking them, at this point it's a sort of catharsis. I'm home, in my kitchen, in control of these little baked goods I'm creating from a recipe I perfected. Or so I like to think. I love the little teaspoons and the smell of the vanilla and eating the chocolate chips as I go. I have no less than 8 Ziploc/Gladware containers heading back to school with me, full of cookies for my friends. Plus a huge container I'm leaving here. I think Shannon's taking them to lunch for her friends on Monday--Mom & Shannon get mad when I make cookies & leave a bunch, because then they're "forced" to eat them.

Between cookie batches, I took Shannon on a Value Village run. I was blackmailed into it--she'd let me wear one of her shirts if I took her. She fared far better than I, getting double the number of t-shirts cheaper than mine. We also went to the library for Mom. I love the Cannon Memorial Library. And I don't care if I sound like a nostalgic 93-year-old woman returning to her hometown after years away, while in reality it has been a month. Stopped by the new boutique in Afton Village, but it was already closed (who closes at 4?). It has potential for semi-formal dresses, but was pretty dark, so it's hard to tell.

Tonight I went out to dinner with the 5 couples (my parents included) that went to Ocean Isle for Labor Day weekend. I didn't feel at all out of place; all of these people are like other parents to me. After dinner, we had a very fast-paced shopping trip back to Concord Mills. I tried on ten pairs of Sevens (and one pair of Earnest Sewn) in under 10 minutes. Sadly, none of them worked--ugly pocket stitching, really wide legs, or super-skinny legs. Where are my perfect Milan wash, bootcut, non-stretch, squiggly-stitched pocket Sevens??? Next trip home will include Belk at Southpark, hopefully. I was more successful in the running attire department, but Nike amazed me by failing to have any running shorts in a size small.

With Southern Living read, my e-mail & facebook checked, and now, LJ updated, I really should get some sleep before my alarm goes off in less than 3.5 hours.
