So, I have a job. I have a bank account. I have been paid by the job and so there is money in the account. Fucking right. Next paycheck (or two) I will have enough for a deposit on a place. On Wednesday I have an interview for my national insurance number. I still need to set up the interview for my passport though (the letter they sent never got to me...).
The job is street fundraising for Greenpeace, and it's a bit conflicted for me. I love working for Greenpeace, it makes me feel like I am a part of something good. Something I really, truly want to be a part of. On top of that, my co-workers are really rad. The conflicted bit is the job itself. I stand out on the High Streets of various small south-coast towns and ask passers-by to support something I believe in. And they ignore me. Or give shitty reasons to refuse. Or give very good and valid reasons to refuse, but I am still left without signups. It is also pretty cold out.
So I dunno. Some days I think I'll start looking for a new job, and other days I am perfectly content. I'll probably stick with it for a while at least.
On the future front, college applications! FML! So. The plan was to be in St. John's in March or September to take Paramedics at their College of the North Atlantic (CNA). I have emailed back and forth a bit with some admissions-type folk there, and though they gave me all the info i could ever want, they neglected to mention the year-and-a-half-to-two-year waitlist. Lovely. So I have now had to scramble around looking for other programs and what their requirements are. Luckily I traveled the damn country this summer, so I at least know whether I like most Canadian cities or not. I love the east coast and my preference is to be there next year. Second on the list is the Yukon or Northwest Territories. Sadly, none of the schools in the territories offer paramedicine. Nuts to that. But, hey! I loved Saskatoon. Whether or not I would love it in winter is a whole other story, but whatever. It's a year. I can deal. So the list of schools I am applying to, in order of preference is: CNA (St. John's), Holland (Charlottetown), MSOP (Dartmouth), SIAST (Saskatoon). I may apply for JIBC in Vancouver... but I am not sure. I've already got my applications in for CNA and SIAST, and now just need to get my high school transcripts over to them (somehow). I have sent off an email to Holland to see about whether or not I can get in without having taken high school sciences or maths. I am occasionally looking for part-time intro to biology courses I can do over here, but that may need to be put on hold at least until I've got a few more paychecks under my belt (getting paid weekly makes this much more reasonable).
So! Movement! Stuff! Progress?
