As I Wait for the Sun

May 29, 2010 11:28

So, the weather has been crap and I have been lazy, and so I have only been out busking last Sunday and on Wednesday. So, while I wait for it to warm up outside and for the clouds to disperse, I guess I can post about busking so far this year.
The first day I went out was absolutely fantastic. I got my first tip before I even got on the bus for downtown. An older woman walked by as I was waiting at the bus stop and after talking to me for a little held out a toonie and asked if she could give it to me! Very lovely. The weather that day was great as were the people. I only managed to stand for an hour and a half (I was very out of practice), but I still managed a decent haul. That haul included a belt, a lucky pen, and a maple leaf pin. The pen and the belt came from the same group of kids, who were very impressed by someone who could actually manage to stay still and not talk. Heh.
I have made another two statue costumes, a bronze/copper Robin Hood and a silver mermaid, and have been doing well with the Robin Hood one. I have yet to take out the mermaid, as I would like to have a taller stool with me for posing. The silver face paint I have for that one is also rather unfamiliar and intimidating. Considering this is the second week I have been out, and considering I was still supposed to be in Nepal right now, I think I can manage the less than ideal weather. For now!
Wednesday was awful. It was over 40º with the humidity and I was all in dark colours. The hat helped my eyes a bit, but it was still arduous. And I have noticed that people are less inclined to be generous when the weather sucks, so my haul was much lighter than it usually is. Ah well, that is the nature of this job I have signed myself up for!
Well, outside I see a few streaks of blue, though it isn't yet above 20º. We shall see.
