Well, this weekend was the Ottawa International Buskers Festival. I didn't really intend to perform, since i am unclear on the Sparks Street Mall's rules and whatnot, and I don't want to encroach on other people's... turf? Sure, turf. Why not. Well, needless to say, I did busk at the festival. Not much, but I did.
On Friday after I finished my shift at work I suited (make-up-ed) up into my new Bride costume. I think I will call that statue-persona Marie. Seems appropriate. Anyway, I headed downtown, and set up infront of parliament (found a sweet spot that had previously occupied by a gentleman holding a "Repent! The End is Nigh! sign and wearing burlap over a dress shirt and pants) and stood for an hour and a half before being completely worn out. So I head for the buses, pass Sparks and with a sigh, set up there for another half hour. I would have stayed longer, except that i was tired enough to be shaking and that kind of ruins that whole "statue" thing. But hey! Half an hour busking at the Buskers Fest!
Today, being a holiday, the only way I wasn't going out was if the weather was bad, and promising to remain that way. But lo and behold! Good weather! In Ottawa! This summer! Wow. So off I head, pretty sure I will head back to Parliament. But of course, I am at Sparks and see that the spot I like is actually free! There is an act in the road beside me, but far enough away that I am not actually part of their act (and it's not like I am very distracting). So I scribble on the sidewalk, put down my cards and hop up on my stool. And it was good! Some people actually took cards! If you took a card and are now reading this- Hi! Thanks for checking me out! I ran out of cards that had already been prepared and so had to put down ones without a thank you or link. Ah well. I will make more. Which reminds me- I should buy some more cards that I do not wish to use for actual readings. People usually don't seem to get that they are allowed to take the cards. That that is the point of them. Ah well. Some people took them, and people seem to enjoy just looking at them.
There were some fun and some cute encounters today, such as a (very) little girl grabbing onto my leg and another (maybe about two?) who kept talking and waving to me and calling me "dolly". Both adorable. And of course the usual amusement from people suddenly realizing that I am actually alive.
Okay, I am really tired. Goodnight folks.
