So I’ve been trying to stay offline as much as possible so K______ from Borders has a free phone line when she calls me back with the results of my interview. As Borders is open from like, 8:00 to 10:00, this is proving extremely difficult.
I went in Borders with ten minutes to spare. Found someone with a headset to ask where to go in another minute or so; he called J____ who escorted me back to K______, who was interviewing someone else. She had double-booked us, so I was glad I’d had the presence of mind to introduce myself to and shake hands with J____, as he ended up interviewing me. I hate interviews - I end up spitting out canned answers, and sounding a bit too honest and nervous. J____ was nice, and asked the usual interview-ish type questions. He seemed interested that I liked children’s books and had illustrated a local one (later I found online that’s a notoriously difficult section, but I still think I’d like it). He told me to browse a bit while I waited for K_______ to finish up. The guy she was interviewing was older and seemed more relaxed. I wandered, ending up in the nearby children’s section, of course. By the time K______ was ready to interview me, I was much more relaxed, though part of that was also having spoken to her previously on the phone, and her attitude. She only asked me a few of the (same) questions, but seemed pretty upbeat, and told me my first contact had raved about me. There was something going on over the headset that she had to keep addressing (just as we’d started discussing Harry Potter - I’m not sure if it’s good or bad we didn’t get into that). She stopped with the questions, indicated she’d already got a pretty good impression, asked if I had any questions, and said they’d get back to me as soon as they could manage to get hold of another one of my references. I asked within what frame of time, and she said hopefully by Tuesday. And as you all know, it’s Wednesday evening, so I’m fretting, and hoping she didn’t try calling during the measly (for me) two hours I’ve been online during the past two workdays. I figure I’ll call if I don’t hear by Friday, under pretense of making sure my references were in order.
In the meanwhile, I’ve planned my Feb/Mar art class, and am hoping it won’t be cancelled this time round. Tomorrow I’m going to a local restaurant to hang some of my photos for an Oktoberfest show, so at least I have something to occupy me.
angua9’s list of things that shouldn’t happen in the 7th book got me thinking about something I’ve probably mentioned before. I think I know what she means with #6 - it’s nothing against the type of love Dumbledore discusses at the end of OotP. Like she says, it’s the "by the power of snogging I vanquish thee!" type of lurve that simply wouldn’t work. But I’ve wondered if the love that contributes to Voldemort’s downfall won’t be a bit more... abstract.
So if Harry really is a Harrycrux, how to rid him of the fragment of Voldemort’s soul? We’ve already seen two different ways to end two different possessions. Stick a basilisk fang in the possessed object (which ends badly for Harry), or force him out with the power he knows not. But I’m thinking the magic involved in creating a Harrycrux has got to be more complex and harder to break. Harry needs the strongest dose of love he can find. We’ve been told of a force so powerful it has to be kept behind a locked door in the Department of Mysteries. Yet I assume it wouldn’t be there if there wasn’t some way to access it, some way to study it [side note: I love the idea of a fic about the wizards and witches who are pioneering the study]. We know of one way past an impenetrable door, if you are able to picture the place on the other side. Harry has learned how to apparate, and I think he’s also gained the knowledge of how to picture love (much as he conjured the feeling to create a Patronus and expel Nagini). Perhaps the part of Voldemort embedded in Harry will flee back to it’s original home, leaving the way clear for a final confrontation.
And if that’s not out there enough for you, I wouldn’t mind Snape being the one to show Harry the way. It could be a dramatic way of proving Snape’s loyalty and possibly revealing the cause of it *cough*Lily*cough* before he kicks it.
