A couple of weeks ago I attended a meeting of future Girl Scout troop leaders. The meeting was led by a person I am going to complain about but not flame here. She is a Girl Scout troop leader. The meeting is boring and costing me more and more money as time goes by. The sheer amount of red tape to start a troop is ridiculous and you have very little support from the Girl Scout council in this area to start up. The support you have is verbal and over the phone or via email. Even help at a meeting is denied. So as I was sitting there my head almost exploded at the mere thought of the time I would not have to do anything else. I work somewhere between 45 and 50 hours a week and have to take care of a family. However as much as Emily loves the Girl Scouts, I would have gone through with it.
That was until later in the meeting as we were going over the do's and don'ts of gathering a troop together. We go over adult to child ratios, no girl will be turned away, the Girl Scouts do not discriminate over race, religion, economic status, etc. Then approximately five to ten minutes later we're advised to keep our troop as small as possible with no more than 8 to 10 girls. At this point I raised an eyebrow but let what she was saying slide. Then she goes on to say she has fifteen girls and will never admit anymore girls. Wait a sec, what happened to no girl is turned away? At this point the troop leader is now referred to as Bitch. Then Bitch goes on to say that her troop is made up from girls that accompany her precious daughter to after school care. However there is a girl who wanted to join the troop but Bitch further explained that she knew this particular girl and this girl would have disrupted the delicate balance of her troop. Bitch then explains she would have had no problem taking her but she knew how meetings would go with the new addition. So instead of admitting the child to her group she tells her that there is no room at the inn so to speak. I took all of this in and after much anger building inside me, I announced that I had to leave because I had to go to work.
I was so furious I could barely speak to Trevor. I was shaking. I could not fathom that a girl scout leader could and would first of all discriminate like that and then admit it to a room full of other leader prospects.
Emily will never be apart of this district. It's nothing personal to the troop she would have been in. It's all to do with Bitch. Emily will go back to her old troop in her old district starting this Thursday. Why? Because they always have room for one more girl. Period.
