i've been doing a lot of research lately, on nutrition and supplements and their effect on inflammation. my leg isn't really healing as fast as i'd like, and i'm sure it's a combination of hydration, nutrition and sleep. especially sleep -- i haven't slept well since before the house flooded. i wake up every night because my leg hurts, and i wish i could tell my leg that sleep is what it needs most, but appendages don't always listen. i ordered some supplements - omega 3, magnesium, vitamins B and E, etc. - that all work to decrease and prevent inflammation. they should arrive soon. diane is letting me use some of her magnesium today, so i can see just how much it helps. i've been stretching, so i figure things must be relaxing somewhere in my leg, because a few days ago it hurt too much to try. the hot baths still help, and the morning one is practically a necessity now, otherwise i ache all day long.
dr. schillinger has a new masseuse working in his office - i met her today. MJ is very good at what she does. my right foot has been numb, which indicates
sciatica, and the first thing she did with me on the massage table was literally massage the nerve start and end. it was intensely uncomfortable, but by massaging the soft tissue, she reduced the pressure on the nerve. now my foot is tingly in a much better way, and i hurt less as well.
the sciatica, thankfully, isn't a spine thing; it's a soft tissue thing. the nerves run through the glutes, and my glutes are inflamed, so they're squeezing the nerve. once the muscles relax and heal up, the sciatica should disappear. the problem is, of course, that the healing process is taking freaking forever... i'm still doing everything i can to speed it up and give my body what it needs, but there's no rushing nature. and now, off to best buy!
