the consult went really well. the surgeon is a super nice lady who didn't have any of that stuffy vet-ness about her. she also had really pretty eyes. anyway, aiden is at the pet hospital right now. he's having the surgery this afternoon. he's getting a metal plate in his leg with about 8 screws. without the plate, his bones would knit slightly crooked (not a big deal), but b/c the leg would be immobile for 6 weeks he'd lose a lot of range of motion that he could possibly never recover. with the plate, he'll be walking on his own by tomorrow, and fully healed in 4 weeks.
so, the surgery is grossly expensive, but definitely the right thing to do for aiden. and for us. i mean, the past 24 hours were extremely stressful... i can't imagine taking care of aiden like that all day, every day, for 6 weeks. i think i'd lose my mind.
i'm doing ok -- definitely a lot better now that the waiting is over. of course, i won't be totally ok until i get the call from the vet and hear that aiden is in recovery, but it's a really good facility and the surgeon instilled a great sense of trust in me. but i am exhausted, underfed and the house is an absolute mess. that will need taking care of.
