Jermaine O'neal is an idiot...
why would raising the age limit to enter the nba be racist? how is it 'against' black ball players. Because they have to wait two more years to enter the nba and (god forbid) maybe get a college education, will more white players get drafted into the nba? umm. NO. There will be just as many black players being drafted as there are now, just with 1) the possibility of an education and 2) a couple years to develop... even jermaine wasn't really any good until about 3 years into his nba career...
"As a black guy, you kind of think [race is] the reason why it's coming up. You don't hear about it in baseball or hockey. To say you have to be 20, 21 to get in the league, it's unconstitutional." O'Neal said.
There aren't black people playing baseball? But more importantly, the reason you don't hear the same outcry from baseball and hockey is that the MAJORITY of its stars come from the college ranks. There are VERY few hockey players that are superstars that didn't play some college hockey. In addition, due to the way that there are numerous minor league systems, a player's rights can be drafted without having to put the player on your 12 person bench the next year. They have somewhere OTHER than the nba where they can be developed. Look at Darko. He's been drafted... now he has to be our 12th player on the bench because we can't ship him off somewhere to develop.
So maybe the reason you hear the issue in basketball is because it's actually a problem in basketball. Anyway, it's just fun to play the race card isn't it, Jermaine?
