The Sunday Courier

Nope! The Sunday courier is not a newspaper;-)

Y'day at about 11AM our bell rang and I found a courier with a white box for me. It was about 10"x6"x2". And the ICICI logo was on it. My relationship with them is for their credit card.

Now what was this? I opened it to find another box but orange in colour, snug fit inside.

I opened it (no there wasn't another box inside, heh! heh!) to find a brochures, some leaflets and a pack of 4 Ferrero Rocher chocolates:-)

The brochure was the ultimate in mail merge technology. The main brochure was mass printed orange card paper. Except that it announced my name in bold white letters! How they did that I wouldn't know. It looked it was printed on a high speed printing press! And to my knowledge those presses still don't come with mail merge;-)

Then there was a card that I had to mail if I wanted what they were offering. This card specifically mentioned it was for me by name, and with the last four digits of my card.

Then there was a card offering 10% off on D'damas (pronounced dee-damas, found that out seeing a TV ad yesterday) diamonds.

Finally the offer. If I spend certain amounts between 1st Nov (remember y'day was 18th Nov) and end Jan, they would give free gifts. These offers where specially mentioned and given fancy names. And you had tick it in the card to mail back.

For a spend of
.75 to 1 lakh set of 6 coasters, napkins and something else
1 to 1.5 set of forks, spoons and knives. Maybe ss or maybe silverware
1.5 and above a bunch of fancy looking vessels.

Within one hour of receiving it Suchitra and me split the Rochers and the tossed the rest into the trash. (She scorned at the offers BTW)

I felt sorry for the courier guy. And the economy, the ecology, footprints (carbon and courier,) and trash accumulation.

Moral of the story is send your trash along with chocolates:-)
