I'd like to get some input from moms who have had more than one baby - with their first child being born early.
My son was born at 34 weeks and spent his first two weeks in the NICU. As first time parents this was tough of course but the staff in our NICU was amazing as I'm sure most are. At the time my doctor told me there was no indication as to why he came early, just that he wanted to.
I am now pregnant with number #2 and have to admit that I'm nervous about the end of the pregnancy. Since there was absolutely no signs at all for me the first time around I am worried it may happen again. Here's my dilema....
I am starting a new job on Monday and as the carrier for health insurance in our family our coverage will be changing. With this change in coverage if I were to stay with my current doctor and deliver at the hospital I delivered our son at it will cost us $3,000.00 more than if I change practices and deliver at the "preferred" hospital under my new insurance. The other hospital is nice. It's not a dump. But there is no NICU there. If we find ourselves in the position of having a preemie needing to go to the NICU I will be stuck in one hospital with the baby being transferred to another. I can not even fathom that. I'm crying just thinking about it. Damn hormones.
I like my doctor and the practice that I'm at (and they now have my history on file). But I only starting going there two years ago it's not like I've been with them my entire life. Changing doctors doesn't frighten me as much as changing hospitals (my file will get transferred).
Do I stay with my current doctor "just in case" and shell out $3,000? What if (hopefully) all goes as planned?
For those of you who had their first baby early how did your following preganancy/pregnancies go? What would you do in this situation?
It's not an easy decision. I completely appreciate any input!
