Fear of pregnancy....and pregnant.

Dec 30, 2010 22:41

I've tried searching through the tags, but it seems it's all about the normal fears and worries that most women have.

I wouldn't quite say I'm tocophobic, but maybe it's because it never felt that dramatic to me when I wasn't expecting.

Cut for back story and triggers )

fears and worries

Thank you very much for that search. I'll try to call a few places tomorrow and see if there are any groups in my area.

Again, thank you so much.

I was going to suggest something like this.

I'm broke, but I'm on a program through mental health authority in my area for my therapy. As well as a recovery program that provides me rides to my appointments, assistance with getting to the grocery store and the like. So that's one more place to call for assistance. (http://dmh.lacounty.gov/ for you) There is a lot out there in the mental health field that most people don't know about. I lost a pregnancy that happened due to rape when I was very very young, and I can honestly say I would have never gotten over it without some help. I hope you find some peace in time. <3

Have you talked to a psychiatrist? This definitely sounds like it's way beyond the normal stuff, and anti-depressants or anti-anxiety meds might help you a lot. I would ask your OB or PCP for a referral to a psychiatrist - and a therapist to deal with the situation that resulted in the pregnancy would probably be a good idea, too.

I totally agree with this comment. I'm an abuse survivor myself, and it sounds like a really good idea to get some help to get through this. I've been on anti-anxiety meds for a couple of years and just came off them a few months ago, they really did help me to get better. I also found CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) really helpful, but there are many kinds of therapies and meds available and you should find a combination that works for you.

Good luck, OP!

<3 If you are on state insurance (and even some private insurances) within the US you should be able to get free counseling. I won't promise that counseling will solve all of your problems, but it's definitely something to look into. They MAY even be able to find you some anti-anxiety meds that you can take during pregnancy if that's your thing (can't give you any promises on that one either).

Like I said, it's not for everyone, but it could be just what you're looking for.

It sounds less like fear of pregnancy and more like PTSD to me. I recommend you pick up The Courage to Heal and the workbook if you can. Although they are specifically targeted at victims of child sexual abuse, they're really helpful for abuse of any kind at any age. You'll work through some dark, heavy crap and it won't be fun, but you will come out feeling a lot stronger, more whole, and more capable.
