OWW My Pelvis!!

Aug 06, 2010 09:01

I'm about 38 weeks, and while I've had what I would call "regular" pelvis and lower back pain, I woke up today with CRAZY pelvis pain! It feels like my pelvic bones are being forced apart every time I stand up or walk!!

I thought maybe she dropped, but it doesnt look like she has. (I did lose more of my plug this morning, but that's been on/off ( Read more... )

If the pain is coming from the very front of your pelvis, which is SPD. Example, rolling over in bed, lifting one leg to put on pants, climbing stairs, now hurts like way bad in that area.... than stretching and exercise makes it worse.

That's exactly what it is. I guess I'll just sit stationary then!!

Not the OP but sounds like I have SPD.

Some days are worse than others though lately every day is pretty bad. I have to sit to put on underwear and pants and even that hurts a bit.

I just thought it was typical third trimester stuff.

I think the occurance of this happens a bit more frequently than doctors would like to let on. For some stupid reason, they don't actively try to treat it, and they usually suck for giving the advice of how to reduce some of the triggers. Like how to rotate to get in and out of cars instead of one leg leading. SPD is one of the most ignored conditions of pregnancy it seems, which is completely terrible considering how debilitating it can be.

Well I never really talk about the pain because I honestly have a really good tolerance for pain in general, and feel fantastic otherwise.

I am for the most part just lazing about the house so it's not something that affects me as much as someone who may still be working. So whenever my midwife asks how I am doing I say good, sore hips and pelvis but I don't elaborate as I really didn't think it would be something more than third trimester aches and pains. The worst part of my day usually is bed time because it hurts so much to roll over and get up which I have to do every hour. But on days when I am more active... I REALLY notice it then.

It just really never occurred to me it could be more than just regular pain.

I agree with this. Even in here, I hear us telling each other how "normal" pelvic pain is (even when it's extreme). It's not normal to hardly be able to walk. This is really, really under-diagnosed, which is a shame because there are things that can be done to make it suck less.

Anyone who tells you that pain that bad is normal during pregnancy is full of bull. See if you can get in to a physical therapist. They can't cure it. Nothing cures it (though it usually goes away in the weeks after birth), but they can help you with exercises that will make it feel much better. I see mine at least twice a week. It's helped me avoid a wheelchair.

Move slowly and deliberately. Be gentle with yourself. Stairs hurt like hell and you should take them one at a time like a little kid. I was reading about a woman who was going down hers on her butt and let me tell you, if the ones outside my apartment weren't so filthy all the time I'd be all over that. I've heard heat helps some people, but I ice my pelvis on the advice of my phys. therapist. It helps quite a bit, even if it's for a short amount of time. Make sure to keep your movements symmetrical. It really helps a lot.

No one had told me it was normal to feel this. I just assumed it was as third trimester is supposed to be painful/uncomfortable and this is my only pregnancy to date.

I have a really good tolerance for pain in general plus I am not working and mostly just vegging about the house these days so it hasn't been as big an issue as it could be for others who are more active.

It just really explains a lot though lol, I am sure if I was still working (so walking 20 min to and from work) I would have figured out it wasn't normal a month or so ago.
