Sorry to post again so soon, but I'm curious.

If you gave birth in a hospital, how long from the birth of the baby was it until you were released?

Where are you from?

(My mother is trying to tell me that depending on where you live, some hospitals will kick you out just a few hours after baby is born, and I'm having trouble believing this.)

hospitals, post partum

I think it largely depends on the type of birth you have, any complications/concerns the hospital has, as well as individual hospital policy regarding standard lengths of stay ( ... )

Ditto the first part of this reply. I think standard though is 2 nights for vaginal delivery (or 48 hours) and 3 nights or longer maybe 4 in some places for csections. Where I delivered it was 2 nights for Vaginal and 3 for sections. The nights were counted after midnight, so I delivered at 1:48 am on Friday, and stayed that whole night, and Friday and Saturday night and was released Sunday. I entered the hospital on Thursday, but your time "starts" when the baby is born :) at least that's how it was for me.

What theblondie said is the same policy my insurance company has. In the US the policy is based on what your insurance will cover.

I haven't given birth yet but have had to fill out all the paperwork (was almost induced) and basically it depends on what your insurance covers.

I'm in MA and covered by Blue Cross Blue Shield. They allow 48hr after a vaginal birth and 96hrs after a c-section. You can be released sooner than that but I believe you would have to sign an AMA.

Uncomplicated vaginal birth. My OB asked me to stay for 48 hours but said I could have left after 24.

I'm from New Orleans, Louisiana.

I'm in Canada, Nova Scotia, but yeah 4 days (they counted days not hours!) after Birth and that was witha section. I could have stayed longer if I wanted to, but I was getting tired and depressed in there so I had to get out.
