Birth plan...please review

Hello!  I know you're probably sick of seeing these, but I wanted to run my birth plan by everyone.  I put it together by looking at ones others have posted along with some weblinks to birth plan generators.

Birth plan:I want my birth to be as natural and intervention-free as possible.
My husband and I are willing to be flexible in our labor and ( Read more... )

Your plan looks great and is pretty much exactly my wishes for my birth...but Are you giving birth in a hospital? I ask because some of these may go against hospital policy (They did at two hospitals I checked out in Philly) I had to switch to a free-standing birth center to avoid things such as the IV during labor and Time-limits.

Aw man, seriously? I am registered to give birth at Abington Memorial Hospital...

We are planning to attend the tour/orientation next week, but I don't know if the tour guide could answer those questions. =(

The only birth center I knew of was the Bryn Mawr one, and they have been completely booked around my due date since I started looking into them. =(

Im in missouri and an IV was required. I would make sure you ask everything that might cause problems in this birth plan.

I live in the city so it was both Penn and Hahnemann that did not jive with my wants! And, Yeah, Bryn Mawr is apparently booked for the next ten years (I was kinda irate about that considering I called when I was like 8w pregnant and they said I could get on their "waiting list". )

I'm going to Valley Birthplace (its a small MW practice about 45 min N of Philly) - they are GREAT! I don't know about Abington but they should be able to answer all policy Q's during the tour. Or if you don't want to wait for the tour call and persist until you get a L&D nurse on the phone (that's how I finally got answers about Penn). Delaware County Memorial was recommended to me for MW/hospital care and also one in Jersey (I'll try to find the name if you want) but I really wanted out of the hospital and Valley Birthplace has been awesome!

Random - I didn't realize you were in PA when I wrote that - just looked to see where you were and was surprised.

BTW, IMO, I think your birth plan is reasonable. I hope your nurse don't roll her eyes at you like mine did when I handed my BP to her! haha! I was like "yes, that's right. you better start reading it now". :)

Uhg, I fully expect this to happen. Hell, I expect it to happen when I hand it to my OB tomorrow.

They didn't offer an IV when I had my son at Robertwood Johnson in Hamilton NJ. That was 4 year ago though. The flip side is you don't get pick your dr/midwife. I had never met my midwife before she delivered my son and left seconds after my placenta was out after that I had a nurse and a pediatrician.

Do you want to labor in the shower, or a birth tub if they have it? You might want to list that.

What about Hep B vaccine for baby?

You might have to have a hep lock, but maybe not. I tested positive for strep b, so I had antibiotics in one, and then when those were done I was unhooked but had the lock in.
