Update. Anxiety and Jumping Beans

Jun 12, 2008 20:48

Last night wasn't a good night. Bean had been very active since around 3pm when I had come back from my daily walk trying to get the bugger to come out. This continued all night. When I say active, I mean really active, thumping about in there and basically freaking me out. This has happened on a few occasions in the past couple of months and the ( Read more... )

I'm sorry you're so uncomfortable! I hope he decides to come out soon!

"they only let you go over.."

Um, do they come over to your house and force you into the hospital? Just remember, the AVERAGE birth takes 40 weeks 1 day. And there are plenty that come early so if that's the average, then plenty should go late.

Do the best you can at calming. Put on some nice soft music, light some candles, take a long warm bubble bath... hell, go get a stress relieving massage. I find warmth calms the inner fetus. My Baby Daddy's hands are very warm which I'm thankful for.

I wish the best for you.

They only let you go over between 10-12 days

No, not true. The prefer you not to go over 01-12 days as that helps them plan more efficiently but you can decline an induction at 12 days, especially if your bishop score is low as you are more likely to end up eith a c-section which is best avoided if you can. I declined induction at 40+12 (I'm in Southampton) but agreed to one at 40+16 in the hope that the garklet would have shoved his way down by then (a study on Nottingham found that if let alone, 95% of women who were still pregnant at 40+12 had given birth by 40+16). I had to come in for monitoring in the day ward in between but that wasn't a hardship.

(as it happened I had a c-section after a failed induction after PROM at 40+15 as garklet was still 1/5 engaged and after 12 hours of oxytocin I had dilated from 1cm to 2cm. Luckily I healed very quickly from the c-section)

You might find the NICE guidelines useful:
Induction of labour

Good luck!

This is why I go to see the doc on monday for assessing whether an induction at this time would be favourable and whether I have dilated any etc.

Because of the excessive movements and the fact that I'm quite petite and Bean is growing still in there and causing me real bad rib pain, they understand that he cannot stay in there much longer because he is causing me distress which will cause him distress.
Hopefully the sweep may help start things off but I don't know. They say they will try other options before resulting to the drip.

Either way I am ready to meet him and at some point next week he will be here whatever way we have to do it.

Thanks for the NICE info. Interesting.

Me too! I think a lot of women have nicknamed their babies Bean, esp early on when we don't know the sex as I think calling them 'it' is a bit offensive. I think it happened when I read at around 6 weeks the baby is the size of a baked bean and it sort of stuck!
Poor thing will probably always be called Bean secretly as it will be hard not to once he is here (if ever!)

I hope your Bean will be better behaved when it's time to ship out!
