In defense of new characters getting focused on

I was wondering, am I one of the few people in the Pretty Cure fandom who doesn't mind it when new characters get focused on more, especially right after they're first introduced? Or am I just seeing the complaints of a vocal minority and extrapolating it to the fandom at large? I sometimes see complaints about new characters getting too much ( Read more... )

I agree with you about everything. The new character does need some focus for the first episodes when she just joined the pretty cure team. I mean it would be strange if eas and seiren just immediatly adjusted to being precure and going to school and having a normal live. It's normal that they would have problems about it first. As for sunshine she needed to adjust and let herself act more like a girl than a boy. Before I began watching fresh precure I read about how Passion got way too much attetion. Now that I've reached episode 30, I don't see why people were complaining. She got attention for four episodes. That's not a lot. My opinion is that when a new precure joins the group, a few episodes focusing on her are okay. But I don't want 10 or 20 episodes focusing on the new precure. But so far Toei hasn't done that thankfully.

I was thinking to write something like this! So I'll just agree and add some points :D

Setsuna/Passion and Ellen/Beat having episodes to solve their relationship problems and own problems are absolutely normal to me. Itsuki/Sunshine learning to live more as a girl, surronded by girls and cute/girly things looks normal to me too.

And come on, the other characters had more than twenty episodes to appear and show their abilities and relationships. And it wasn't like they just forgot the past characters anyway.

Maybe 'cause Passion and Sunshine are my favorite cures of all (and Beat is almost reaching this point XD), but I don't think they got so much screen as I see people complaining. And people must don't forget that Pretty Cure is a show for children who needs to sell toys and other stuff - and needs to emphasizes the new characters.

I absolutely agree, I DO bother with over expression on new characters.

I agree 100% about this, and usually I just laugh whenever people rage about this sorta thing, especially here in the LJ where it occurs frequently

Oh, the TOYS. It's been so blatant in Suite with Beat. Don't get me wrong, I love it, the in your face "buy this thing, it's awesome, check it out, it freaking changes from guitar to rod" it's so noticeable it's funny, and it makes for great stock footage too. Win/win I guess.

As for the on topic discussion, yeah well, I like the new characters when they are introduced so I never complained about it. I wasn't an Eas fan, so Passion was nice. I loved Sunshine, and I really like what they are doing with Beat [though Ellen is a bit derpy sometimes].
