The first day of school

Well, today was the first day of school. I had to cover 3 periods for another TA who is already out a week with mono. That class is all inclusive- the kids are great. They range from able to read to not able, pre-school to 5th grade knowledge. Even though its difficult, I enjoyed it.
My other three periods are in remedial US history. Kids with mostly behavioral and learning problems. First class- these two kids were already laughing and being stupid. One looked stoned. I reminded them that they can sit where they want for now but if they kept it up, I could separate them. Second class, kids were better. They hate history and didn't know when Columbus found the new world. I threatened to make tapes of me singing history songs, make them memorize them, and then perform them for the whole school. I even sang "In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue." They thought I was crazy.
Third period, I taught the class because the teach was working with his computer. We were going through states and their capitals. Those kids think I'm nuts. I was trying to get them to remember the capital St. Paul or something, and this one kid was like "It's Pablo!" and I said "hey, we're not doing rap capitals right now- no Petey Pablo." They think I'm like the weirdest teacher ever. Its great. I can tell we'll have a lot of fun in there.
All in all, a good day!!
