What a week!

Well, getting ready to go back to work and help set up classrooms. It's been an experience of mixed feelings. For 3 periods I am working with a special ed history class- mostly learning disabilities and behavioral problems so they all have IEP/IAP's. The teacher is new teacher and a coach..so, uh, he has no lesson plan and school starts Monday... GREAT. He's asking me for any ideas. Yeah, so very unprepared. He's like 26 and everyone thinks he's a "hottie" and don't get me wrong, he's probably a great teacher, but he needs to get organized badly.
Wednesday we went to a seminar on autistic education. Very interesting though kind of boring because he had made it for 20 people with hands on stuff, but we couldn't do the hands on because we ended up having 70 people!! It was held at the Laurel school- a special school that deals with a lot of autistic children and preparing them for middle and high school. I paid attention but not as much as I should of because they just changed my assignment for the rest of the day from clinic and feeding duties (feeding some of the kids and changing their depends...) to working with an Autistic girl named Michael. She's apparently high functioning, but she does grow attachments and is a very visual learner. So, I'm doing some reading in my Intro to Special Ed text book and I'll meet with her primary teacher today an dget some more detailed info. I am excited for school to start but at the same time nervous. The building is in chaos- they're doing renovations, and many of the classrooms aren't even close to being done. Yikes. Anyway, Sasha, if you're reading this, I may need some guidance!!!
