Hyt is one of the most difficult spirits to contact, mostly because of its solitary nature. So yes, it's very normal.

I have not. I know little about the filial spirits still, I wasn't sure if attempting to contact more than one of them would offend them.

It doesn't offend them, though it is simpler to try to contact one at a time, for concentrating purposes.
