L.J. (Lisa Jane) Smith wrote TONS of rather formulaic teen occult novels back in the early/mid 1990s. One of her series was The Forbidden Game, a sort of Labyrinth rip-off but it sucks you in anyway. XD. Anyway, the main gist of it is this Shadow Man named Julian falls for a girl named Jenny Thornton. She's got a boyfriend (Tom), two bffs (Audrey & Dee), and then Audrey has a BF named Michael. Then there's her (step?)cousin Zach (who randomly has vaguely incestuous tendencies towards her in the first novel...or so Julian says) and her other cousin Summer.

And they all are forced to live out their nightmares, run mazes, etc. etc. because they chose to "play the game" (think Jumanji). Anyway, Jenny is alternatively attracted to/repulsed by Julian throughout the course of the books. Julian remains in love with her. It doesn't end well.

I actually learnt of the series from reading some really weird Labyrinth / Forbidden Game xover that made Sarah and Jenny cousins. And Jareth a Shadow Man. And after that...I read them and forgot about them. I got back into them again this fall (mainly because wolfalice started mentioning them), when I read the books and then (gasp!) started writing fic for them. Hahha. XD. So I felt Julian deserved a place of (dubious?) honour in this series of crack. XD.

Anyway, tl;dr version - I'm so glad you liked it! ♥ ♥ ♥ Because, it's hard to know what's funny to other people when you're writing dialogue in your head, y'know? XD And yeah..Sarah totally Isn't convinced he's not gay yet. Poor Jared. He just gets now love. Now Blaine, though, he gets ALL the love! XD

I just got this lady's entire library downloaded, so I'll be up-to-date on this entire fandom... and aahahaha, it sounds like an awesome fandom to be in XD

Oh, I know -- Funny dialogue is always the most confusing writing, isn't it? It either comes out as much more funnier than you expected it to, or something weird and malformed and partially chewed through >_>
