An interesting take on re-vamping what we consider to be nightlife:
Night Life Reprogrammed In a nutshell, what we have here is the "Maker" ethos hybridized with your neighborhood pub, with live entertainment, group activities and contests dominating the scene. Its partying for the creative mindset. You show up, either to throw down with your skills, or watch people do amazing things with metal, plastic, cloth or what-have-you. You stay, with your mind actually engaged, rather than sitting in neutral for five hours. You leave, recalling that something happened that simply couldn't have been possible anywhere else.
To me, this is what we need more of here in DC. To me, "the forumla" of the music-appreciation-club/young-20s-dating-scene has some rather well defined limitations. There's certainly room to move in a different direction.
Besides, where else are all the steampunks going to hang out?
(Makers will be happy to read that none other than Bre Pettis is behind this in NYC)
