The Largest Machine Ever Made

I stumbled upon a nice collection of photos for the Large Hadron Collider. Even if you're not into particle physics, these pictures are just plain gorgeous and look like something straight out of a science-fiction movie:

This machine is going to help confirm, or even possibly disprove, the current accepted theories surrounding the most minute of subatomic particles. And as is typical with this kind of science, the smaller your target particle, the bigger your particle detector. As you can see, this thing is huge.

And I used to think that I had a lot of wire behind my computer desk...
