Frenchtown Summer

“Longer boats are coming to win us, they’re coming to win us, they’re coming to win us, longer boats are coming to win us, hold on to the shore..”

I’ve been singing Longer Boats since I came across the lyrics in one of my old Livejournal entries.  So I had to look up Cat Stevens on my MP3 player and called it up on his Tillerman album before starting this.  I also made two ham and swiss cheese sandwiches and got a glass of Coke.

I was looking through my Kindle, putting books I’ve read into a folder so they’d still be on the Kindle but out of the way.  I only included books I’ve actually read on the Kindle, not books I’ve read elsewhere and downloaded but not read yet on the Kindle, like Treasure Island, the Oz books, Edgar Rice Burroughs..  I came across Frenchtown Summer.  I love that book.  It’s one of Cormier’s best.  I have the hardback and a copy on the Kindle.  One of the happiest days of my life was when I got that book from Amazon.com.  I got it and Yusuf Islam’s Bismillah CD.  I listened to the CD first, because it wouldn’t take as long, and his version of The Wind on that album just blew me away.  Tara was sitting on the back of the couch looking out the window, I was sitting on the couch when I opened the book and took myself once more into Cormier’s universe, the Frenchtown section of Monument.  It was a day off from the convenience store across the street and I really got to enjoy it.
