1912 dress

Behind on every post.

So April was the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. The Greater Bay Area Costuming Guild planned this really epic sounding replica of the last dinner aboard the Titanic. I was so excited, I checked every day for the tickets to go on sale. Except for this two week period where I was incredibly busy.... during which the tickets came and went.

Nicely done Mi, nicely done.

Well I put myself on the waitlist. And on the offchance that I did get in, I of course had to make a dress!

I have a bunch of progress pictures I wanted to post here.. but I can't find them. In that, I think I switched cards and don't know which card they're on. If/when I find them I'll post 8D;;

I got the fabric when sakurae graciously took me around the fabric district and helped me pick out things :D

But basically, I took the top of a strapless prom dress pattern I had on hand for who knows what, and added sleeves. You can see that look demonstrated really well in the pics here, especially the sketch:
http://dressedintime.blogspot.com/2011/11/edwardian-fabulousness.html

The bottom is essentially a rectangle with some pleats in the back for sit-ability. All this would be much more clear with pictures 8D

Then day of the dinner, I had heard nothing sadly. But I drove out to the location and ajmeow and twjudy came early to the dinner so we could take pictures.

I thought, well I can’t use my angsty face. I can’t use my derpy open mouth smile. These are the only two expressions I use when doing normally cosplaying... So I concocted this brilliant plan to do a demure closed mouth soft smile...

Fancy lady.

Lookit that crazy train.
She used a beaded sari for her fabric

Judy also used pretty sari fabric!
And she made a completely adorable matching purse! I love it.

I like this one because it is the most excellent representation of real life. AJ and Judy looking poised and perfect and ready, and me getting tangled in my train and tripping 8D

Demonstrating my lack of ability to pull off a closed mouth smile 8D

And a close up of my hair dealie! It's attached to a black beaded hairband which really is too narrow for the period. If I wear it again I'll sew it to a wider sash made out of the dress fabric.
I tried to take a pic of my earrings but it didn't really turn out. Also it literally just occurred to me that I could have taken them off to take a pic....
Anyway, they're small bird clip-ons I got at an antique faire in England a long time ago.

So being backwards, progress pics to follow, eventually.
