…for Sunday, your amazing day. Because I am truly sad that I am unable to be there to share this with you!
I was baptized when I was eight-years-old like most kids who grow up in LDS families. But as I’ve grown older I almost wish I could have been a little older when I was baptized just so I could remember better that special moment in my life. I try sometimes to recall the feelings I had that day as my sins were washed away and the Holy Spirit came into my life in a more profound and real way than ever before. But, all I can remember is that it was pouring rain outside and that I had a new dress and that my grandma came all the way from Virginia to be there.
Well, ultimately it is of no consequence whether I remember the moment exactly but rather that I understand and continue to honor the covenants I made that day with my Heavenly Father. After emerging from the waters of baptism we are able to truly take upon us the blessings of Jesus Christ’s atoning sacrifice. What a beautiful thing! When I think of how blessed I am to have this knowledge of my Savior and His love for me my heart is filled with gratitude beyond description. One of my favorite scriptures perfectly captures my elation and thanks -- 2 Nephi 22:2-3:
Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid; for the Lord JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also has become my salvation.
Therefore, with joy shall I draw water out of the wells of salvation.
Jesus Christ, through his suffering and dying, has truly become your salvation. By taking this step and being baptized you have shown your trust in Him and now you will be blessed with the gift of the Holy Ghost who can help you to continue to live your life righteously and draw water out of the wells of salvation.
Kir, I know that this Church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is truly God’s Church and the only true Church on the earth today. I know that our Heavenly Father is so overjoyed to have you accept His outstretched hand and choose this day to join His fold. Heavenly Father loves all of His children here on earth. He knows each of us individually and He is simply waiting to pour out His countless blessings upon us if we will choose to live righteously and consecrate our lives to Him and keeping His commandments.
I can’t wait to come back to Boston and have a million more amazing adventures with you!
I love you!
M.
