Sky Tate vs. Vida Rocca (its on!)

Oct 19, 2006 12:13

I promised WF I'd post before she got back from her holiday and I'm hella stuck on my latest fic (CURSES). So enjoy some witty banter.

His helmet tilted again. "Syd?"
"Yes."
"I think I...Z saved me, right?"
"You're forgetting? I thought you were protected from changes in the time line!"
"I'm supposed to be. But no one's changing my time line, just yours."
Syd nodded. "Carter, we need to hurry. Sam, did you bring your cycle?"
"No."
"He can ride with me," Ryan offered.
"Ok. Let's go," Carter agreed, holding out a hand to help Syd back into the Rover.

While Jack and the Zeo Rangers headed towards the east, Sky Tate found himself uncomfortably sandwiched between two strange teenage boys, a cheerful redhead and a brown haired boy, in the backseat of a jeep.  As he was elbowed in the side by the boy to his left (“oops, sorry mate!”) Sky stared at the red clothed figure zooming ahead of them on a motorcycle with a bit of envy.  Sky silently wished for his own patrol bike, all the way back in 2025.

“So ah..Sky right?”  One of the girls in the front seat asked as she turned slightly to stare at him.

Sky nodded. “I’m sorry…you’re….Vida?”

“Madison.”

“The Blue Ranger.”

“Yup.”

“And you have a male Yellow?”

“Yeah…”

“That’s me!” The redhead chirped from Sky’s right. “Chip Thorn!”

“We’ve met. When we got in the Jeep, remember?”

“So we did!”

Sky sighed. For some reason, Chip reminded Sky an awful lot like Bridge…

“Hey, so let me ask ya something,” the driver of the Jeep, Vida, asked.  “Is it weird to have a boy as the Yellow Ranger and a girl as the Blue?”

“Cause at the party there was only one other team with a guy Yellow,” Chip chimed in.  “That strange Ninja team.  The other Yellows were all girls.”

“All pretty girls,” the boy at Sky’s left (Sandy?  Ander? Sky couldn’t remember) said with a grin.

“Yellow’s traditionally been filled by women,” Sky replied.

“And Pink’s always a girl,” Vida huffed.  “Figures.  Who would have thought superheroes were sexist?”

“Actually Vida,” Chip said excitedly, “There are a lot of strong women superheroes in Comics and in Videogames now. Like Samus, Lara Croft, Wonder Woman, Buffy--”

“Who’s sexist?” Sky interrupted sharply. “Its tradition, not affirmative action!”

“Tradition made by..hmm, lets see, Men?”

“The Morphin Masters--”

“We’re all guys?”

“….That’s not the point--”

“Cause only a man would have picked spandex. Chauvinistic pigs.”

“Heh. I have to agree with Vida there,” Anders (maybe it was Alex?) said as he raised an imaginary glass in salute.

“The Morphin Masters were not sexist!”

“Then how come there’s no women Red Rangers?”

“You can’t have a girl Red!!”

“Why not?” Madison looked genuinely curious.

“Because!”

“Wow, I sure am glad to see society really progresses in the future,” Vida snarled as she jerked the jeep into a hard right turn.  “I suppose that in your time all your Yellow and Pink Rangers are barefoot and pregnant in their Zords.”

“Vida!”

“That’s harsh V.”

“I don’t believe this! What kind of team are you?!”

“Ah we’re new, mate.  Well, new for 2006 anyways.  How about you tell us? I mean, you are from the future and all.”

“Xander,” Chip said (Xander! Sky mentally kicked himself) “He can’t tell us anything! The paradoxes it would create could like destroy the universe!”

“Ah…sorta.  But Chip’s right, its imperative to the timeline that we not divulge anything,” Sky explained.

“Not even a hint?  Like, do we become famous or anything?”

“Famous?” Chip looked aghast. “We can’t reveal our identities!”

“Do I fall in love? Is she hot?  Blond?!  Rich?!  Just a hint, come on!” Xander whined as he clutched Sky’s sleeve.

“Xander, stop it, you could ruin your own future!” Chip replied and grabbed Sky’s other sleeve.

“Guys knock it off, we’re almost there.”

“Do you even watch movies like Back to the Future, Xander? He. Can’t. Tell!”

“Hey sorry, I don’t watch Star Trek.”

“I’m gonna kill Jack when I get out of this,” Sky mumbled.  Even though his being assigned to the Mystic Force team had nothing to do with Jack, the fact that the Red Ranger got to ride with the famous Tommy Oliver was enough to make Sky want to murder him.

“Hey, look, we’re here, Newtech City limits!” Madison said loudly with a forced cheer.

“Finally,” Sky wrenched himself free from Chip and Xander.  “I live near the city center.”

“Ok…hey what’s that,” Vida pointed with one hand at a dark blob flying high in the air a distance from them.

“It…it looks like a …bird,” Madison frowned. “Only its pretty big.”

“There’s more of them!” Chip pointed to a nearby park.  “They’re really big!”

“There’s a lot of them,” Xander noted.

Sky’s eyes widened. “Oh no…”

“What?”

“I think I’ve seen those things before.  In my history class,” Sky looked pale.  “I’m pretty sure those things are called Tengas.”
