The woman I've thought of as my grandma for the last 17 years died yesterday at 12:20 PM. She was no relation really, but she was almost my grandmother-in-law at one time. Thelma Jane Hill was 94 years old, had fought Alzheimer's for the last 15 years and had suffered a couple of strokes, a broken hip and heart problems. I got to spend Thanksgiving with her and her daughter, my buddy BJ. I hugged her before I left on Sunday, and she died of a massive heart attack Monday while BJ was bathing her. She was a schoolteacher for more than fifty years (she kept lying about her age because she didn't want to retire). She was my friend and the grandmother of my heart, and she will be missed, but at the same time, I know she's relieved that her struggle is over. Rest in peace, Janie Girl.
