And so begins another semester of school. I've been going since I was 18 and I am 24 now. There's no end in sight because I took so many foreign language classes.
People seem to be impressed by this. "Wow! Are you fluent in any?"
"No."
And then they're not as impressed by this. :P
I have officially changed my major to focus on Spanish because it was the most uninterrupted during my tirade of foreign language classes. Focusing on this, I should be able to get all necessary classes out of my way and actually land a degree somewhere and possibly even go to graduate school. I'm too tired to care about that right now, though.
So, as I've been going to college for so long, I'm familiar with--and irritated by--how things on campus typically look to me. Let's have a look at what's new and what's old for little Nic:
Old: Cost of books. Cost of tuition. Cost of food.
New: I'm payin' for it all out of my own hard-earned money!
Old: HOT GIRLS EVERYWHERE
New: I CAN'T SEE THEM FROM FAR AWAY BECAUSE I LOST MY GLASSES
Old: Stupid classmates. Stupid professors. Stupid faculty. Stupid school policies.
New: Actually, there's nothing new about this. I'm just as disgruntled and misanthropic about it now as I was before.
I've always been displeased with other folks my age. I suppose I can't really fault them for it. They were distracted from thinking while I was not.
"I GOT A TATTOO ON MY ASS. NOW I ATTRACT SHAMELESS MEN."
"I GOT A LIP PIERCING. NOW I ATTRACT TRASHY WOMEN."
"I GOT A STUPID CAR TO PLAY OBNOXIOUSLY LOUD MUSIC. I GET ATTENTION."
"THAT TEACHER IS STUPID. HE GAVE ME A POOR GRADE BECAUSE I WAS A RETARD WHO DIDN'T STUDY OR PUT MUCH THOUGHT INTO ANYTHING. LETS GO 2 THA MALL. DURRRR"
And I hear their conversations in the classroom before the teacher comes in. A lot of it often seems like attempts to get attention or nothing of significance (gossip, etc.) and I so rarely catch one with a quirky sense of humor or hungering for knowledge or deep conversation.
Maybe I'm just a disgruntled, elitist prick. :P
