Day 16 - Favorite Guilty Pleasure
Ugly Betty

When it came to guilty pleasures, I initially thought of "True Blood" or "Glee". Shows that I watched, because they were entertaining, but at the same times shows in which I was not particularly invested. Shows with major flaws. But I already stopped watching "Glee", because it hasn't been enjoyable for me anymore and as for "True Blood", I'm not so sure if I wanna keep watching after the disappointing second half of season three. They were just temporary guilty pleasures, as it turns out. So instead I decided to look for a guilty pleasure that I would actually still watch.
And here comes the shocking part: While "Ugly Betty" might look like a guilty pleasure, I really don't feel guilty watching it. I think it's a beautiful show. It has a strong cast of minority characters, a wonderfully relatable family at its core, an admirably hopeful heroine and a sweet message about tolerance and acceptance. It's a show that I really fell in love with. While the soapier elements very well fit into the "guilty pleasure"-category, the the other elements of the show made up for it and kept me invested in the show for four years. With other guilty pleasures, I feel bad about having wasted time in them, but not with Ugly Betty.
