I would prefer you make a note of people who linger in the area but choose not to enter or participate. Reconnaissance, if you will. Especially if their identity correlates with those that have been punished by the captain, or if your own instincts are stirred at their presence. While your senses are heightened, you will find it somewhat easier to observe people unseen or from a greater distance.
