As usual, it's been a while since my last post. How many people actually read my LJ? I'm going to assume not many people do. Then again I'm not exactly promoting my little hole in cyber space. Let’s catch up on recent events shall we?
- Juli and Michael -
At the moment, Juli is consumed in a book she picked up from the library. She's a freaking book worm I tell you. Me, I've never been into reading, just the pictures. Actually, I'm more into biographies and autobiographies rather than your typical science fiction books and murder mysteries. Anyway, I'm going off on tangent. Juli is doing well; still busting my chops, still making me laugh. Michael is doing great; still driving me nuts, still making me smile. Michael went to an audiologist as part of his speech therapy. He passed with flying colors, which is great because the poor kid is having hard time picking up the English language. I'm hoping the speech therapy helps him out before kindergarten. My mother-in-law cracked me up when we told her Michael was going to speech therapy. She jumped up and stood up for Michael. At first she denied there being a problem, which I agree, but it'll become a BIG problem if it goes ignored. She then tells me "But Ricky, make sure you tell them (the speech therapist) that he lives in a bilingual house". Here’s the kicker, I may be Mexican, but I couldn't speak Spanish even if my life depended on it, and Juli rarely speaks it at the house. Oh man, that was hilarious! I'm not picking on her but it was just a funny thing to say.
- Parents -
Parents are doing well. Mom has been working and dad is working on his poker skills (tough life when you're retired).
- Recent events -
We meet up with my buddy Vinnie his wife Renee and their 8 month old son Vinnie in Kissimmee over the weekend. Their son is such a good kid, seriously, he hardly cries! It was great visiting them because it's been almost 3 years since we've last seen them. Vinnie and I go back almost 10 years. We used to work together at a place called Kartland in Wareham, MA. Renee and I went to school together, as a matter of fact her brother Larry and I graduated the same year, Anyway, after visiting them we headed over to Mount Dora, which is just north of Orlando. It is a beautiful place and is nothing like south Florida. It's almost like night and day! South Florida it's so congested, flat, and at times, too fast paced. In Mount Dora there are rolling hills, country roads, and hell less palm trees. We had a small problem though; Juli put the Trailblazer into guard rail while I was taking a picture of this lake. We were fine, thank god, but Trailblazer suffered a little damage.
- Things of interest -
GO PATRIOTS!! They won it again, woo hoo! Patriots won the Super Bowl last Feb in Houston, Red Sox swept the Cardinals, too bad John Kerry didn't win the election; New England would have had a nice hat trick! I had a blast Super Bowl Sunday. I'm so happy for what the team has done over the past 4 years. You know what really pisses me off though? Living in south Florida I've met so many people who are bitter towards the Patriots success. This guy who does a local sports talk show made the following comment the day of the parade in Boston: "It was easier to like them when they were losers........ Look at them, holding up their third Lombardi trophies!" Not just that but I've had people come up to me and tell me, with conviction, that they "F'n hate the Patriots". How can someone be so darn bitter towards something that has NO IMPACT on their lives?! I don't get it.
I've started messing with Linux at work, and I love it. I've messed with Linux at home, but I can only do so much, mostly because of the "environment" I have them running in. Anyway, if I can get my box running all my apps I'll give up my XP Pro system. At first, I loaded Suse 9.2, but I had to configure the Citrix ICA client to connect to our Citrix farm which was a long and painful process. Most of my apps work but this one program called Dameware which is an applications I use on a regular basis. I loaded arguably the best Linux distribution available on the market; Novell's Linux Desktop. Yes I said Novell. This thing loaded so smoothly, it already comes loaded with Firefox and the Citrix Client. It also comes with a variety of tools and applications. I've used Redhat, Mandrake, even previous version of Suse but none of them touches Novell's Linux solution. Now, most Linux gurus will probably say “Oh well you don't have the freedom to do, blah blah blah blah blah". Lets be real here, most people want to just turn on the computer, and do what they need to do, whether thats check email, surf the web, or just work. The interface for GNOME is a lot more user friendly than Redhat's Blue Curve and even KDE. Check out some of the screenshots:
Well that's it for now. Take care!
