i've been busy, i guess.
i mean, working 50+ hours a week qualifies as being busy, right?
other than that, i've slowly been getting some paintings done, which is good. i guess i'm going to be in the
Vermillion Art Gallery in Seattle, so that's exciting. It starts on Dec. 7th and goes through January 30th, 2008. It's to benefit a food bank in the Seattle area, so that's great. it's nice to actually do something that helps other people, right? i have a lot of work ahead of me, but luckily i have 2 days off so things will get done. i should have about 4 pieces in there, for sure... i might have to throw in some oldies if things get a bit rough (aka - i can't finish the other ones on time). but i'm kind of skeptical to show those older ones, just cause, ya know? you'd rather show some newer things instead of have to grab for some paintings you did like, 8 months or so ago. none of them will be digital, thank god. i've been kind of out of that for awhile. it seems to be a bit too easy, and i always get stuck in a rut doing the sames things with it. i also find a bit more joy doing something physical instead of working on the computer. plus, there's only one copy... hahaha.
i've realized i've only been really painting for a little over a year, and i guess i've seen myself kind of progress since then. its nice to see yourself improve in some way. i mean, i'm a lot more focused now with everything i do, not just drawing/painting wise. i know what i want, and i'm working to get there. that's half the battle. right now i'm just trying to think of more ideas and a different way to approach things. that's why i've been so dormant lately. i've been thinking up ideas like mad, but not actually really putting them into action. its hard when you don't have a lot of time.
anyways, here's my oldest painting i did (circa 2006, around oct.-nov.):
here's two new ones that i am going to definitely be putting in the gallery:
"A Growing Trend" 12"x12" mixed media on wood.
"Bad Apple" 14"x16" mixed media on wood.
I guess i've been trying to create some sort of post-apocalyptic cartoon world, i really don't know. it's something people would make after almost getting their entire world blown up. this is their way to express their confusion and discontent with the world. to me, it's kind of the opposite of graffiti, because it would just be discarded, not erased. it's just there in a pile of rubble with everything else. people glance at it, but they don't take anything from it because there are other things to worry about... like surviving. it means something, maybe it has a social or political meaning, but essentially, it's just there. nothing more, nothing less.
sorry for sounding D E E P or whatever, but this is kind of where i'm coming from.
there ya go, have a great night.
