A new sign appeared on one of the shops opposite our office this morning, which led me to ponder the imprecision of the English language - the sign states:
Relocation
SALE
All stock must go!
In one sense this is self-evident; if they are relocating then of course all stock must go, from their current location to their new location. This is not however the intention of the sign, which is to entice people to come in and buy "all stock" while it is "on sale" until it is all gone, but in that case there will be no stock left to relocate.
I like seeing signs like this, they remind me to check my own writing more carefully. And they make me smile.
