The post where I ramble on for three days

Nov 16, 2011 12:52

Haven't really been posting to my own journal lately. No time really. Work has got me jumping. Personal issues abound. And I think I'm just trying to keep up with too many 'social' activities online. There's FB(personal, ARCadians, New World), Twitter(Personal, ARCadians although not as much as I probably should), Google+, LJ(reading fic, posting pics to ALP journal, ARCadians re-watch posts) and now GetGlue. Best thing about GetGlue is you can get actual stickers mailed to you on the shows you watch for free. I'm also blogging a bit over on The Walking Dead website which I'm a bit obsessed with at the moment along with another called Strike Back. Which leads me into these guys:

This is Norman Reedus who most everyone will probably recognise from Boondock Saints.

The first time I remember seeing Norman was in a movie called Mimic. Decent enough movie but I really didn't pay attention to Norman all that much. At the time, I think I was really into Jeremy Northam for some reason. Anyhow, I think I took notice of Norman the way most did and that was in Boondock Saints. Loved his and Sean Patrick Flannery's portrayal of the MacManus brothers along with the ever amazing Billy Connolly as their Da. I was really happy to see him pop up in The Walking Dead. Even if it was as a 'Redneck' (which is a term I don't particularly care for. It's a slur just like saying the N word...which I don't care for either, btw.). Anyone who has watched the show realises there is much more to Norman's character 'Daryl' than meets the eye. As I have repeatedly said to many I've given lectures to, we are a product of our environments. The way Daryl was raised has had a profound effect on the way he sees the world. As his is a character not found in the original comic,  it will be interesting to see where they go with him. It's my belief that Daryl was physically abused as a child. Not only beatings, but possibly sexually as well. The way Norman is portraying him just gives off that vibe. Daryl is also a character that is quick with a quip and I love that. Some of his comebacks are hilarious. Right, enough about Norman.

Next up is someone all the Alice fans may recognise: Philip Winchester

I think one of the reasons I didn't care for him so much in Alice was he was pitted against our lovely Andrew. On his own though? Yowza!!! I recently watched this show called Crusoe. It only had one Series, but such man-pretty was Philip running around the jungle with his 'man' Friday. Slashyness abounds in that program, for sure. With bonus Sean Bean, how could you go wrong?? Too bad it didn't get recommissioned. No matter, Philip is currently on another show called Strike Back.

As you can see our Mr. Winchester has beefed up a bit for his role as British covert operative Michael Stonebridge. I think I rather prefer him to his long and lithe Robinson Crusoe but he is really good in this show. It pings all of my interests too...well most any way. No sci-fi here unless you think advanced weaponry is such. It's got a strong female lead though which is very refreshing from all the testosterone. They blow shit up on a regular basis and there's sex....oh my word is there sex. Sullivan Stapelton, who plays Michael's partner Damien Scott is quite the horny bloke. I think he'd shag just about anything. Funny thing to me is that Sullivan is an Aussie playing an American while Philip, an American, is playing a Brit(which he does phenomenally well. Matter of fact, one of the best accents I've heard an American do)

So now that I've rambled on about my new 'boys' guess I'd better get back to planning my holiday fundraiser. First though, my current watch list:

TV:
Chuck (last season and it's not a very good one at that)
Death in Paradise (loving this show. Ben Miller in another Lester type role and there's even a lizard)
Criminal Minds (loving the pranks that Reid & Morgan are playing on one another)
The Big Bang Theory (this show just seems to get funnier and funnier)
The Walking Dead (More interested in the interpersonal relationships than Zombie fare, nice that it's not strickly going along with the graphic novels.)
Supernatural (Not sure this season is doing it for me. It's early though, so we'll see)
Grimm (liking this show so far, reminds me of a series of books I read from Jasper Fforde though..Nursery Crimes Division anyone?)
Misfits (now that Robert Sheehan has left there seems to be a big void in the show. Joseph Gilgun is just okay for me as Rudy)
Lost Girl (I hadn't realised this show had picked back up so I'm a bit behind. First couple eps of S2 were pretty good though.)
Castle(I just wish Beckett and Castle would tell each other how they feel already. Loving the B guys Esposito & Ryan)
Hawaii Five-O (Haven't caught up with this season yet. Working on it though)
Strike Back (Just finished this one up....great show, see above for further comment)
Leverage ( this will be restarting again soon with the back half of this season)
I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

Movies:
Haven't really had a chance to see many movies lately but one that I saw that was very good and recommended to me by Alex Moss. It's called Moon http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1182345/ and stars Sam Rockwell. It was directed by the same person that did Source Code, Duncan Jones. Duncan also happens to be the son of David Bowie. While I wasn't that impressed with Source Code, I really enjoyed Moon.

I also saw a movie called Adam. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1185836/ I liked this movie as well and think Hugh Dancy did a good job of portraying someone with Asperger's Syndrome.

Some of the movies that I would like to see:
Conan(hello?? Jason Momoa)
In Time
Reel Steel
The Rum Diary
The Ides of March
Contagion
Killer Elite
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo(US version with Daniel Craig)
Hugo
My Week with Marilyn (this movie is getting some really good buzz)
Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows
Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
War Horse
The Hunger Games
Safe
I'm sure there are more here too, just can't think of them at the moment.

the walking dead, strike back, philip winchester, watch list, ramblings, norman reedus
