I've read a some acceptable, but not great, fan fics that have fairy tale -ish vibe on them. What made those stories good was that they stayed true to the genre: somewhat simple language, non-realistic setting and clear archetypes. She's a would-be-princess, he's a prince, they marry and live happily ever after. A reader is supposed to just go with it; there's no need for round personalities or character development, it's a fairy tale after all. Those stories would be trite if I analysed them further, but because they are faithful to the genre, I read them as fairy tales. They aren't supposed to be realistic and the writer acknowledges it.

I should mention at this point that those "acceptable" stories weren't from Harry Potter fandom, but One Piece fan fics of Frobin pairing. I'm such a huge FrankyxRobin fan that I read every Frobin fan fic I can find, and I'm less severe because they are ~~meant to be together~~ or something along those lines. I'm not sure if I could react that well to Harry Potter fairy tales. Harry Potter played a great part in my childhood, and I am not certain if I can stomach Harry Potter characters turned to mere princess and prince archetypes.

Yemi hikari, even if you aren't going to write anything, you certainly had some kind of idea. Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease, tell me what kind of fairy tale adaption you would do? I'm totally blank when I try to imagine something interesting that hasn't been already done. I'm not going to steal anything, I have a half a dozen unfinished fics myself, I'm just curious.

One of the major problems with the fairy tail adaption is that most don't bother to keep the characters in character and the relationships are erased. I'd by many of them more if it was the characters from a series play acting. Some do better then others simply because the fandom first and/or the characters actually fit their roles. I'll also say I wouldn't be so adverse to these stories being written as fairy tales if a.) they weren't multi chaptered as a traditional one-shot and b.) it didn't come across as if the characters were just being substituted for other characters

Are you familiar with the modern fairytale? That's the kind of fairytale I would aim for. One of the types involves making it occur in a modern setting, or a setting familiar to the characters. Hilary Duff's Cinderella would be a good example. Another route would be to amp up the seriousness of the story like Ever After.

The only one I have planned out at this point is one for Bleach featuring Toshiro/Karin in a modern setting involving the step sister being a classmate getting Karin into trouble and having to pretty much do clean up in the classroom because the classmate likes getting her in trouble. The planning is still in the works though.
