I hesitate to say that any kind of fic is universally bad. Marriage Law fics are certainly not to my taste, but surely someone out there has the ability to write a compelling one.

The trouble is, almost every single one I see focuses on Hermione. I presume this is because she's the muggle-born with the most focus, so more writers are interested in utilizing her. And, as stated here, Hermione would never in a million years go along with such a thing. Whatever the consequences were, she would not care. The only possible way I could see her entering into such an arrangement would be if the person she was marrying had no way out and was in serious danger if she didn't go through with it--and even then, after she did marry whoever it was, she'd be fighting tooth and nail to put an end to it. I guess they could fall in actual love along the way, but I can't see Hermione giving that much, if any, thought at all until she had the whole Marriage Law thing permanently written off the books.

You know, I was really interested in the concept of bonded soulmates with telepathy powers...when I was 13 and writing my first fics. And even I didn't go as far as they're being stuck together forever even upon rebirth and even hatred makes it stronger! That's extra creepy. I suppose at least I must confess it makes more sense in the "Harry Potter" universe than it did in "Yu-Gi-Oh." The bar is low.

As a final complaint, Hermione use of the timeturner wouldn't age her up by several years, as writers are so fond of saying so that they can stick her with inappropriately older adults. Seriously, is it that hard to just start a story out with her physically and emotionally being of age? You can still ship her with Sirius or Snape or whatever, and then it's a little less cringe-y! I'm not sure where I read it--maybe TV Trope's Fandom Specific Plot page?--but it would only add up to a couple of weeks anyway, if that.

Perhaps somewhere in this wide, wide Internet, there's a good Marriage Law fic. I don't believe that this is that fic.

I've actually not given up on finding that one person who does have the ability to pull off a marriage law, yet I'm also not holding my breath either.
