Can you minions help me come up with a tag which means “didn’t do their research?” I ask because this is the second entry in a row where the writer didn’t bother doing their research. It needs to be something I can easily remember the name of when I go to add it. Also, I have to do some renumbering of entries. Currently this is 5009, but it should ( Read more... )

Her English skills are really precarious. I wonder if this is just a lack of effort or if English isn't her first language. Anyway, I don't get a terrible fic like this getting several positive reviews. Don't people have any standards?

Yes, but I've seen good stories with even less. It's the quality of the review, though: OMG SO GOOD isn't the kind of comment I would take to the bank, but it counts as a review.

It is also possible the reader is dyslexic. One of the things I noticed as the dropping of a word which still happens after ten years of writing fanfic sometimes. In which case I don't think it is an issue of the writer not having standards, but more of the standard they are capable of achieving is low.

Well, to be fair, they could get a beta reader. But it seems more like they don't quite know how the English language works...again, there are beta readers. Most people don't bother with that, though.

As someone with dyslexia I remember the time when I didn't quite know how the English language works, but looking back on my own experience with beta readers I also know from personal experience it is difficult to tell whether a beta reader actually knows how the English language works if one doesn't know how it works. Then there is the experience of being told we're incapable of reading and writing well or that we're just plain lazy for the grammar mistakes we make ( ... )
