Prologue
The students who were on Platform 9 and 3/4 didn’t know what to think about the strange red-head who had just walked through the barrier. She wasn’t strange because of her looks-- quite the contrary, many of the boys thought she was attractive-- it was the fact that she looked to be no younger than 16, yet here she was boarding the Hogwarts Express for the very first time. The students didn’t know what to make of her. She wasn’t a Weasley; Ron and Ginny had confirmed that there were only seven Weasley children. She was just strange. A stranger. Yet there she was, sitting inside the train going to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
They had never known Hogwarts to accept exchange students, and she looked much too young to be the new Defense Against the Dark Arts Teacher. Was there a special reason for her being there? Why would Dumbledore allow her to come? Automatically rumors started spreading: Maybe she’s a genius and is teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts! (No! We’ve already established that’s not the case!) She’s Mrs. Weasley’s lovechild! I mean, look at the color of that hair! (My mum didn’t have an affair you idiot!) She’s an escaped criminal in disguise as a student! (Now really Hannah!) I bet you she’s the heir to a fortune! (I know! Did you see those robes she had on?) Her family is a gang of travelling bank robbers! (Hannah! Enough!)
The red-head on the other hand, sat patiently aboard the train and looked out at all the students. They would know about her soon enough. She watched as slowly the Platform began to empty and the train began to fill. The students bid their families final farewells.
She turned around as the compartment door slid open, and three students walked in.
This will be an interesting year, she thought.
