Harold And Kumar Go WAY The FUCK Out Of Their Way...

Dec 28, 2007 00:55

Sheila and I just saw Harold And Kumar Go To White Castle for the first time.

Well, we saw TBS' version. (Which was 1 hour, 45 minutes on Tivo, but actually about one hour five minutes with commercials. We assume a LOT was cut.

BUT...

FUNNY freaking movie!

However, I have a bone to pick with the movie. Well, several, but I'll just stick to the one for this post.

They live in Hoboken. They get stoned, they crave White Castle.

They decide to go 35.5 miles to New Brunswick to get some.

And yes, there IS a White Castle in New Brunswick. (Even though theirs in the movie is closed, there IS one there...)

BUT...

Anyone who knows Jersey a bit would question going all the fuck way to New Brunswick from Hoboken.

Why?

Well, there's one in East Orange, 11 miles away. One on Route 22 in Union, 15 miles away. If East Orange don't work for you, Orange has one too. Closer still is the one in Irvington.

They get lost in Newark on the way. Newark has TWO White Castles. The next town south of Newark is the City of Elizabeth. THEY have one.

Hell, they can go less than FIVE miles for the one in Jersey City. Or the one in Clifton, not too far away either. All on main roads as well.

Now I CAN say, that East Orange, Orange, Irvington, Jersey City, Newark and Elizabeth... Well you're taking your life in your own hands headed to those places. But the one in Union is okay (I saw Jose Canseco's twin brother Ozzie there the year he was playing for the Newark Bears) Hell, go down Route 22 another 25 minutes and there's one in Green Brook, very nice town, easier to get to than New Brunswick from Hoboken too.

THEN, after the White Castle is found to be closed (though it's not), they decide to head to Cherry Hill (which has NEVER had a White Castle, has no cliff to hang glide off of anywhere near it, and was rated the nicest place to live in America in Fortune magazine.)

Cherry Hill is 57.5 miles away from New Brunswick. Linden would have been closer. Howell. Toms River. Woodbridge! (Heck, Woodbridge would have been closer to Hoboken than New Brunswick come to think of it.)

Give you an idea of this scenario.

They start outside of New York. They drive basically down the shore, THEN decide to drive to Philadelphia. Insane.

Now, they stop in Princeton. Correct, it would be along the route.

Outside Princeton, Harold gets bit by a raccoon. They go to the hospital.

The hospital is in Freehold.

Princeton is 16.5 miles west of New Brunswick. FREEHOLD is 20.5 miles south east of NB, and 25 miles from Princeton itself.

If you know Central Jersey, this is LUDICROUS. Northern and Central Jersey are NOT rural areas at ALL, and in fact is the densest area of population IN THE COUNTRY. There are plenty of hospitals in the Princeton area, I AM SURE. (Seems like you can't go more than 5 miles in North or Central Jersey without finding a hospital direction sign along the way.)

(Side note: I just googled it and came up with no less than EIGHT hospitals or medical center in the Princeton area ALONE.)

Especially when you factor in two things: 1. Kumar's dad AND brother work there, and he DIDN'T KNOW THIS, and 2. the guys they saw get beaten up in Newark were there.

NEWARK IS ALMOST 40 MILES AWAY, AND HAS ONE OF THE FINEST HOSPITALS IN THE STATE AT RUTGERS! NO ONE WOULD EVER, EVER, EVER BE BROUGHT TO A HOSPITAL IN FREEHOLD FOR GETTING BEATEN UP IN NEWARK!!!!

And thus friends, I conclude my rant about the feasibility of their road trip through our lovely state. I WILL admit they used shots of Route 18 which leads TO New Brunswick, but the rest was pretty much bunk.

Oh, and a side note, I can't even believe this, but I called Freakshow as being played by Chris Meloni. Swear to God!

harold and kumar, rant, movie, jersey
