Does anyone know if there is any evidence (from the films, interviews with cast and crew, DVD extras, posts at Wordplay etc..) that Scarlett and Giselle are actually prostitutes, or is this something we have all just assumed?

Is there anything remarkable about Jack's compass, physically? I mean, does anyone know enough about age-of-navigation compasses to be able to put a rough year and make on it? Justawench posted a question about Jack's Piece of Eight as explained in the AWE DVD extras.  This got me thinking how bothersome the Pieces of Eight are.  Below is a list of my personal niggles.  I'd appreciate any thoughts or additions.

How did Jack get hold of the bearings for the Isla de Muerta?

If it's an island that cannot be found, except by those who already know where it is, how did Jack become someone who already knew where it was?

Did he have his magic compass at this point?

I've been thinking more and more on Jack's backstory. Previously, I was turned off by the thought of Jack as a young 'un, because I didn't like to imagine him as anything less than the crafy pirate captain.
