Who: Kamio Akira and Chitose Senri
What: Kamio is a ferryman.
Where: Rowboat.
Rating: PG

It was another beautiful day, the sky bright blue with nary a cloud in side as Chitose ambled across the deck to the ladder where the smaller boats for reaching the actual island were. Holding his large floppy sun hat he peered over the edge to see if there was one available before actually climbing down, a grin oozing over his features as he spotted the unmistakable redhead sprawled in a rowing boat a few feet below him. "Hey!" He called down, waving a long arm and leaned further forwards. "Are you up to making another trip?"

At the question, Kamio stirred from his musical coma enough to stretch languidly, letting his bones crack, and pull out his earphones. Looking up, he spotted Chitose and wrinkled his nose. If he heard one condescending nickname this trip...

Calm down, he told himself and took a swig of water. You're just overheated and tired.

"Sorry, didn't hear you. Need a ride?" why else would Chitose be here?

"If you happen to be going my way." Shifting the bag full of small things that could be used on the island so it wouldn't dig into his ribs Chitose nodded.

"There really isn't anwhere else to go," Kamio said dryly. He did not care to repeat his last journey on the open ocean in a rowboat. "So yeah, get in."

"Great." Climbing over the railing Chitose carefully descecnded the ladder, not actually all that fond of swaying, vertigo inducing heights. So he was more than glad when he finally had the semi-sold wood of the rowing boat under his feet. It was a bit of an awkward fit considering his height but somehow he managed to tuck his bag away and fold himself to sit on the bench opposite of Kamio, the edge of his sunhat flapping in the cooling breeze. "Ready when you are then."

Taking up the oars for the eighth time that day, Kamio steeled himself on the bench for a moment and pressed play on his mp3 before throwing his whole body into the motion required to propel the boat back. Long wiry arms stretched and circled the oars in the water with amazing speed and the wind blew his hair such that it obscured his face almost completely, which was just fine with Kamio. He knew the route by heart.

Some Dragonforce was perfect to get him through the waves and rocks.

Looking around and watching the large ship grow smaller as they pulled away at a surprising speed was enough to keep Chitose occupied for a few minutes but after that the only thing that was not water or wood was Kamio so the lanky young man settled in for some up close and personal people watching. "So...what are you listening to?" Watching silently had lasted an amazing two minutes before Chitose gave up on it in exchange of badering Kamio a little. Hopefully the little redhead wouldn't try and clobber him with an oar.

"Dragonforce," Kamio said, then grunted as they passed over a wave. At least it was easier to get there than back. Going back to the ship he had to fight against the waves instead of pass over them and let the water help take him in.

Asking after his music was hardly clobber worthy; if anything, it was the easiest way to get Kamio to converse.

"Don't think I know that one." Chitose smiled easily then leaned forwards as Kamio seemed to struggle a little. "If you want I can take over for ya." At leats on the way there - Kamio would have to manage on his own on the way back.

"No! I'm riding the rhythm!" Kamio exclaimed, with a burst of energy from the guitar solo. This was his job and he would execute it. When he returned to the main vessel, he could take a nap.

Or he could even take a nap on the island. No one would miss him for an hour or so.

"Alright..." Biting back an amused chuckle Chitose leaned back again and folded his hands behind his head. "So I guess Kippei's disappeared for you to come all this way looking for him?" Tachibana's duckies really were adorably loyal, if not a bit on the clingy side.

"I don't know," Kamio rowed and tapped his foot along to the beat. "Haven't talked to him in awhile. Saw the accident on tv and heard them talking about the old circuit..." he heaved the boat toward the island; they were about halfway there.

So basically, he made a completely wrong assumption with very little evidence for it. Shit happens.

"Well I wouldn't be surprised if he turned up suddely, looking for YOU at some point." Chitose mused in amusement, tapping along to Kamio's rhythm lazily.

"I hope not," Kamio muttered, taking a breath between each circulation of his arms. "There are enough of us stuck here...I can take care of myself," he didn't want Tachibana to be caught in this mess as well.

"It would be fun to see him again though." Letting his hand dangle over the edge Chitose felt the waves brush against his fingertips with a smile, the water cool and refreshing on such a warm day.

"Yeah," Kamio admitted. Maybe after this, he would have a swim instead of a nap, to cool himself off. With mild interest, Kamio jerked his head toward Chitose's tools, sending his hair everywhere. "What are you gonna do on the island?"

"Try and build some sort of shelter." Flexing his leg Chitose gave the bag a nudge. "In case we have to stay on the island for some reason I suppose." He hadn't really paid all that much attention to all the discussions going on about planning things. "Ken-chan's probably going to start tearing stuff apart on the ship soon to use as material."

It was a good idea; ships were not the most stable of shelters. A storm could easily bring it back out to sea.

Kamio nodded and grunted, as he didn't have much to say to that. "You got a crush on Oshitari-kun or something?" Two out of two times, Chitose brought up the blond.

"Eh?!" Blinking in surprise at the question stared for a long moment before he started to chortle, long frame curling in even more as he slapped his thigh in hilarity. "Oh god...no." He shook his head and rubbed at his eyes. "What gave you that idea?" Taking off of his hat he smoothed his wild hair back as best as he could before wedging it back into place.

"Oi!" and Kamio thought he was being insightful. "Shmoopy nicknames and talking about him a lot sends the wrong message, okay?!" he pointed at him, almost dropping an oar in the process. Good thing his reflexes allowed him to catch it quickly.

That conversation with Sengoku must have messed up his brain to think in the gutter.

"You can blame Kin for the nickname." Calming down from his amusement Chitose still grinned broadly. "At least I'm not calling him Ken-chan." He shook his head. "And I just figured you two have a bit in common - that and I figured you might appreciate a warning about a load of disassembled furniture coming your way at some point." Wiping at his eyes again he frowned a little and dug a hanky out of his pocket to gingerly wipe at the left one before stuffing it back into his pocket.

"But you just called him Ken-chan!" Kamio said, swift motions carrying them closer to the beach. "And it's not like I have a room on the ship," he would probably sleep in his boat on the shore.

Though Kamio heard about Chitose's eye, it was none of his damn business, so he didn't ask, merely hummed to himself.

"There's more room on that boat than you can shake a stick at, I'm sure they'll find a spot for you to sleep." Glancing past the slender redhead Chitose could see the island's shore rapidly approaching now. "Why don't you join us for dinner tonight and maybe a little drink." If they hadn't started rationing the booze too.

Booze didn't sound so bad. After a full day of rowing like today, he could use the drink. He could always pass out on a deckchair after; he didn't really want to bother with finding a room.

"I don't want a room, but I'll take you up on the dinner offer." After all, he was running out of potato chips.

"Great." Chitose's face creased into an easy smile. "I'll see you when I head back then?" Once they hit the shallow end of the beach he carefully climbed out of the swaying boat, looking about as graceful as an arthritic crane.

"Guess so," Kamio said, rowing quickly past Chitose to pull up on shore. Then, he lay down on the sand and let a wave wash over him as he panted to catch his breath.

Watching the younger man in amusement Chitose followed him up on the shore, his shadow falling over the prone figure. "Thanks for the ride by the way." Another wave rolled over Kamio and Chitose could see how the water drained some but not all of the heat from the redhead's skin."You know...you might need this more than me," he decided and plucked his hat from his head to let it lightly drop over the speedster's face. "Try not to get a heatstroke." He chuckled, straightening and ambling away in direction of the planned headquarters on the island.
