I'm so glad that Jaclyn is here. She is such a good kid. It's been an amazing journey watching her grow up and being an active participant in her life. I first met her when she was a shy fourteen year old. She is now twenty, holding down a full-time job, part time job, school, and living on her own with her boyfriend in Battle Ground.
As someone who is a bit eccentric and a bit selfish, I never thought too much about giving things up for myself to benefit others (shitty mcshit, but true nonetheless). But. When she was living with us, my love for her made it easy. It was easy moving our bedroom into the smaller room so that Jaclyn could have the bigger one. It was so easy to forfeit things for her. It was easy to go the extra mile. Of course, she made it easy by being a total bad-ass that I love to death. She taught me that creating opportunity for others is one of the best things in the world.
We drove down to Truro yesterday morning and spent the day on the beach. Becky came! I was so excited. It's always an exciting time when I get to hang out with my sister. Even though I want to rip her face off and spit in her facial tissue from time to time. But it's good. Really good.
We sat on the beach and swam in the ocean. I got my ass handed to me by a huge wave that crashed over me at shoulder-height. I face planted into the ocean floor. The wave basically formed a giant, meaty-paw and somehow managed to pull my pants down and expose The Great White to everyone in proximity. It was definitely not a site for sore eyes. In fact, those who were exposed to this monstrosity are recommended to receive treatment immediately (perhaps electroshock?).
P-town was decent (the sheer number of tourists made is semi-uninteresting... no matter how much I love Canadians). We roamed around and perused through lots of little shops in an attempt to escape the blazing sun. There were (of course) tons of gay men in all shapes and sizes. And a few lesbians, too. Rainbow flags galore. And dogs. Lots and lots of dogs! We had a hard time finding a decently 'sit down' restaurant, but decided on a place that had the worst clam chowder in the universe. It was filling, but was nothing more than murky water, potatoes, and clam bits. The Caesar salad, however, was nice departure.
We left around 6pm and got home at 8pm. No traffic and lots of 70mph driving. Couldn't have been better.
This weekend/week (so far?) has been absolutely amazing. I'm going to try to take Thursday off in addition to Friday (and yesterday), so that I can soak in as much of The Girl as possible before she leaves.
Me like.
In other (equally amazing) news: HAPPY BIRTHDAY CASSANDRA MURRAY!!!! I owe you an IKEA bureau and a vagina-shaped ice-cream cake. With a cherry on top. I love you, little lady. To pieces.
