Emitting, for an Uchiha, a very high amount of happiness, Sasuke ambled over the wooden floor of the outer part of the big Uchiha mansion. There was a relaxed expression spread across his face as if he had grown out of the strict education of his childhood days.
“Nii-san?”
Silence followed his inquiry. Sasuke ignored the cold behaviour of his brother with years of experience. He had known him way too long to be bothered by such rather minor things.
“I want to introduce you to someone. And I think he rivals you in the matter of popularity.”
For just a second Sasuke showed a nearly invisible grin. Itachi reacted by no means to the open provocation of his brother.
The younger one continued, unimpressed.
“His dream is to become the next Hokage. But that still will take some time ... you obviously know our good and kind Hokage ... when she quits, we’ll be old an’ grey and she’ll still look like she did in her twenties ...”
Sasuke interrupted himself as he went around the corner and carefully shoved the fragile paper door open. He stopped for a moment and eyed Itachi, then hesitantly looked around as if he remembered something unpleasant. He shook his head disagreeing to clear himself from that thought and went confidently inside.
“You certainly know him, his name is Naruto.”
The younger Uchiha got rid off his shoes and continued his way further into the heart of the house.
Itachi kept being completely unfazed even as Sasuke entered his room and way too exaggeratedly - of course non-calculating and un-Uchiha-like - greeted the blonde boy.
He kissed Naruto on his cheeks, then on his lips and pulled him into a tight embrace.
“No Naruto, Itachi isn’t bothered by you no matter what it looks like. He always looks like this, really!”
The older brother still stood stoically in the doorframe, facing the room of the younger one. Not that he wanted to move in any way.
Sasuke kissed Naruto’s ice cold cheek again but was distracted when Itachi suddenly fell to the floor. For just a second he contemplated what to do now.
Finally he gently kissed the forehead of the blonde boy and carefully placed him on his bed. He arose from the soft mattress and walked towards Itachi who still laid motionless on the floor.
The younger touched the hair of his brother and with a deep sigh he adjusted the paper seal on the back of his shirt.
“Nii-san, I told you to watch your seal.”
For a moment, Sasuke appeared to be angered. However, he recollected himself fast and smiled softly.
“Come on, I’ll introduce you to Naruto!”
With halting steps Itachi followed his brother to his sleeping berth and took a seat. Sasuke leaned on the lifeless shoulder of the older one and pulled Naruto into his arms.
A shiver went through his body.
“I’m glad you two get along.”
None of them reacted.
None of them moved.
None of them breathed.
Sasuke closed his eyes and cried, driven by the force of insanity.
Sasuke was happy.
